Murray into last eight at Wimbledon

Andy Murray beat Mikhail Youzhny in straight sets 6-4 7-6 6-1 to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the sixth time. Murray is now the only British player left in the singles after Laura Robson lost to Kaia Kanepi from Estonia 7-6 7-5 in her forth round encounter on Court one.

Good day for Murray and Robson at Wimbledon

Andy Murray and Laura Robson are flying the flag still for the Brits at Wimbledon 2013. Murray has reached the second week and last 16 without dropping a set with a straight sets victory this afternoon over Tommy Robredo 6-2 6-4 7-5. Laura Robson the British number one also won today beating Mariana Duque-Marino 6-4 6-1 to advance to the third round.

Federer goes out in shock defeat

The king and current champion Roger Federer is out of Wimbledon at the second round stage. Federer lost in four sets 6-7 7-6 7-5 7-6 to the world number 116 Sergiy Stakhovsky. This has been a day when a lot of the top seeded players have been knocked out or withdrawn from the tournament. The big names that have gone are Tsonga , Hewitt, Azarenka, Cilic and Sharapova. After the last few days Andy Murray side of the draw is starting to open very nicely.

Laura Robson into second round at Wimbledon

Laura Robson is into the second round of Wimbledon with a great victory over the 10th seed Maria Kirilenko from Russia. The young Brit ranked 38 in the world won in straight sets 6-3 6-4. Robson will now face world number 117 Marina Duque-Marino in the next round on thursday. The British number two Heather Watson lost her first round match to American Madison Keys 6-3 7-5. There is only now 3 British players left in the the singles,  Murray, Robson and Tara Moore.  

Murray through to second round at SW19

Andy Murray the number two seed defeated German Benjamin Becker in straight sets 6-4 6-3 6-2 to advance to the second round of Wimbledon. Murray next match will be against Chinese Taipei’s Yen-Hsun Lu on wednesday. There was not so good news for British tennis as Anne Keothavong, Kyle Edmond, Johanna Konta, James Ward, Samantha Murray and Elena Baltacha all were knocked out in the first round of the singles event today.

Nadal out on Day 1 of Wimbledon

French Open champion Rafael Nadal has been knocked out in the first round of Wimbledon today by world number 135 Steve Darcis from Belgium. It is one of the biggest upsets in Wimbledon history with Nadal losing in straight sets 7-6 7-6 6-4.
